Hotcakes for Haiti

Do you like pancakes with pure maple syrup? Do you want to find a way to support the struggling people of Haiti? Come join us for our annual event, Hotcakes for Haiti. Owners of Maple Moon, Todd and Christi Petersen, along with their four children feel a special link to Haiti. In 2014 Todd and eldest son, Luke, traveled to Haiti with the Petersen's church. Just three years later, Christi, and eldest daughter, Haley went as well. Each person fell in love with the people of this struggling nation. Their church still strives to send a team each year to Haiti. However, this has recently been difficult to do, do to political unrest in Haiti. The Petersen's still look for ways to support the people of Haiti here in northern Michigan. So now they put on an event each year to raise money for Haiti. Come help us support our brothers and sisters by eating some delicious pancakes, during Hotcakes for Haiti! We'd love to have you here! Usually held in July but subject to change. Please follow us on Facebook or Instagram to find out more.

Wineshoeing

Come join us at our annual Wineshoeing event, on the second Saturday in February, to celebrate the opening of both our syrup business (2012) and our winery (2015)! To celebrate, we like to get outside and snowshoe our beautiful woods that God has blessed us with. We will take you on a guided tour, with snowshoes provided by Bear Cub Outfitters in Petoskey.

To start off this snowshoe excursion with Maple Moon; visitors are handed a glass of wine which they can enjoy while admiring the vintages and indoor displays. It is a great chance to warm up your soul and taste one of many exceptional wines. After polishing off the first glass it is time to suit up and strap on the snowshoes. For beginner snowshoers, the staff members of Bearcub outfitters are on hand, ready to help you strap them on and are knowledgeable in explaining the sport. From there, you begin your trek by winding through the Cedar forest where you find yourself captivated by the stillness of  winter. Along the route, you happen upon the humble beginning of the Minnehaha Creek, a spring fed creek who’s waters wind their way through the joy valley.  Next, you depart the cover and protection of the cozy cedar forest and walk out into the majestic maples and the rolling snow covered hills.  The landscape and scenery out on the tour are truly beautiful and set the stage for a romantic tour; or perhaps just a playful trek in the snow. The tour winds up in front of an outside roaring fire with yet another glass of wine and a bowl of homemade chili. This amazing experience comes at the cost of just $30 and includes the use of snowshoes, the guided trek, tastings, a bowl of chili and a souvenir glass to take home. We can’t think of a better way to spend a snowy afternoon in Northern Michigan’s wonderful out of doors. We would love for you to join us for this joyous occasion, in celebration of all we are!

Each year we take pre-registrations for Wineshoeing guided tours. Spots fill up fast, so stay updated on our Facebook page to know when registration starts! To register, please email us at mmsyrup.mi@gmail.com

Are you looking forward to spring? Well, visiting a sugar shack is pretty much a right of passage into spring, and tree-tapping marks the official start of maple syrup season. Learn the history of "sugaring off," get first hand experience as to how to identify and tap a sugar maple tree, collect the sap, and discover how the process of making real maple syrup begins. We'd love for you to join us!
